That’s right people nuLOOM is back!

We at PlushRugs pride ourselves on bringing you the latest and the greatest modern area rugs, and in our mission to do this we have reinstated a manufacturer! For the first time in a long time PlushRugs will be selling nuLOOM’s lines of fantastic modern area rugs, and just in time for Father’s day!

Now, I don’t know about you, but my father isn’t necessarily the area rug type. He’s a farmer, and pretty much only loves things with the John Deere logo stamped on them. That being said he might still like something a little like this.

image

This is a rug from the Modella collection simply titled “Tentacles.” And I totally lied; this is more like something that I would want because, well, I love cephalopods. Specifically Octopi, is there anything cooler than a Kraken swallowing a ship like in the Pirates movies? My dad might like this one too though, I’ve never really consulted him on his area rug preference. I’d assume he’s probably a more traditional style rug type of guy, but we’re focusing on the modern today!

There are some pretty awesome rugs available from nuLOOM, it all depends on what kid of rug you are looking for.

image

The Textures collection contains, you guessed it, amazingly textured rugs! And Strada is no exception. This rug makes me think of a pebble beach spread out in the middle of my room. It would go great with anything in earthy tones, to give a room more of an outdoorsy feel.

image

The Cine collection also has some really awesome rugs in it! This rug, titled Ave, features a really cool “Bird on a Wire” image. Perfect for fans of the 1990s Mel Gibson movie of the same name! (Not that an area rug has anything to do with the movie…) It’s an excellent black and white piece that can be used to dull down some more vibrant room accents, or it would go great with other stark colors.

nuLoom is a fantastic manufacturer that I am glad to get to browse, their styles are vibrant and varied. You can find something for just about any room. Also, you just can’t go wrong with a manufacturer who actually designed a comic book style area rug! BOOM!

image

A fantastically vibrant piece that would be great to bring some color into a room, or simply to accentuate a certain space. It would also go great in  that room you’ve got full of your old comics and memorabilia!

Nothing says holidays like a cheese log!

Well, maybe not. Either way, the holiday are fast approaching! And by fast approaching, I mean Thanksgiving is tomorrow! Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays, I mean who doesn’t love shoving their face with yummy food? But it always makes me sad when Halloween is over and people instantly jump to Christmas. There’s almost a full month between each holiday, give credit where it’s due!

Thanksgiving is not just celebrated here in the good old US of A, it’s celebrated all over the world! Now clearly different countries celebrate at different times based on their own traditions, but here, it’s the last Thursday of November. Other countries that celebrate Thanksgiving include Canada, Germany, Japan, and Norfolk Island whose Thanksgiving celebrations are today!

When most American’s think of Thanksgiving, we think of turkey and stuffing and that horribly documented celebration at Plymouth in Massachusetts in 1821 where the settlers supposedly invited the Native American’s to eat with them because of a good harvest. It is also believed that the Native Americans taught the settlers how to plant snd harvest these crops. Probably true.

Now if you’re like my family, today is the day where you deep clean and get the whole house ready for the relatives to come over and then you aren’t allowed to do or touch anything until after they leave. Even breathing is dangerous. Lucky me, I’m here at work with you wonderful people so I got out of it. Yay me! Anyway. If you’re acting like my family and still trying to get everything situated and are struggling with decorations, fear not. The great and powerful Oz is here to help.

The key to make decorating simple and easy is to get good transitional pieces. These are the piece that you can use time and time again for multiple occasions. The best way to start off your decorating is to pick a color scheme. Seeing as how it is the middle of the fall/winter season, reds, browns, and golds are about as hard to find as an elephant in a house, so that is always a good color scheme to start with. It’s good for every holiday from Halloween all the way through to Valentine’s Day!

Now that you have picked a color scheme, whether it’s the one I stated or not, it’s time to look for good accent pieces. Blankets, candles, rugs, and throw pillows make perfect accent pieces. When the right ones are picked, they can transition effortlessly into every holiday.

This is a great example of a transitional accent piece. It features multiple shades of one of your colors in your color scheme, it has a simple design, and it can work in a wide variety of homes. Once you have your accent pieces picked, purchased, and placed, all you need is your holiday pieces.

Accent your home with pieces that work directly with the scheme and colors of your home. Grab some wreaths for Christmas, pumpkins for Halloween and Thanksgiving, things like that to help differenciate which holiday you’re family is looking forward to. Add some candles or potpourri or bake some yummy cookies to give your home a warm and inviting feeling and smell that will make your guests feel warm and cozy.

And that’s all she wrote, folks. These simple things will help make your home feel warm and inviting and will help you save some cash for these times of the year where you find yourself spending more than your bank account enjoys!

Joseph Abboud Rugs

Joseph Abboud, menswear fashion designer, was born in May of 1950. Abboud expanded his designs from just menswear to home decor when his line of home area rugs was officially launched in Fall of 2011. Pairing his designs with an established rug manufacturer, like Nourison, gave him all the help he needed to help his line branch out into a different aspect of fashion.

Abboud has already established a more than memorable career. He is a famous designer, author, and devoted father to two girls, Lila and Ari. On a trip to Australia, Abboud discovered that his great-grandfather owned the largest men’s tailored-clothing company in Australia. Between his great-grandfather and seamstress mother, you could say that fashion runs in the family.

Abboud got his start when he began working part time at 16 at Louis Boston. He joined Ralph Lauren in 1981 but left a few short years later when he started his own label in 1986 named JA Apparel. He later sold the line in 2000 for a cool $65 million. He left JA apparel in 2005 but launched a new line called Jaz in 2007 followed by Black Brown 1826 for Lord &Taylor in 2008. He also has many famous clients such as news anchor, Tom Browkaw, and Boston Red Sox short stop, Nomar Garciaparra.

Joseph has also been the recipient of many fashion awards. In 1989 and 1990 he was honored with being nominated by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) for an award. He was lucky enough to win the award both years making him the first menswear fashion designer to win it two years in a row.

Abboud has also dabbled in writing, authoring the book Threads: My Life Behind the Seams in the High-stakes World of Fashion. In the book, he describes the fashion industry, talking about everything from designing and selling to naming colors. He also talks about the racial profiling he experienced after the attacks on September 11, 2002 and the court battle over legal rights to his name.

Joseph Abboud is also a very involved breast cancer activist. He even had the honor of being named one of five GQ magazine and General Motors’ “Men for the Cure”. His passion for breast cancer developed at home, losing both his mother and sister to the disease. He has done a good chunk of his charity work for Concept:Cure. Abboud has been quoted saying “Concept:Cure is a very special program for me. My mother and sister died from breast cancer. It’s a disease we really have to find a cure for. I know I speak for my colleagues when I say (Concept:Cure) is not about monetary or PR opportunity for us, it’s about doing something really good.”

Aside from his awards in fashion, and notability from Concept:Cure and being an author, Abboud has also made special appearances in the media. He was the first fashion designer to throw out the opening pitch at Boston’s Fenway Park for a Red Sox game in 2002. He has been referenced in TV shows such as Seinfeld and The Wire. He was also referenced in the books American Psycho, Tell No One, and Just One Look. Abboud was even given the honor of making an appearance in Robert B. Parker’s novel, The Professional.

Now that Abboud has dipped his toes in a little bit of everything , he turned his attention to home furnishings with a line of specially designed rugs from Nourison, one the of the nation’s leading rug manufacturers. He has three beautiful collections: Joseph Abboud Chicago, Joseph Abboud Modelo, and Joseph Abboud Monterey.

Abboud starts off his collections with the Chicago rugs. These rugs are made of beautiful cowhide leather and cotton chenille. The texture, patterns, and colors mix together to give the collection a simple sophistication that Abboud shows in all of his work.

**Consumer note: This is an all natural animal skin product that with regular wear will change in look over time. This product is not recommended for high traffic areas such as dining rooms, and special care should be exercised when moving furniture.

Next is Abboud’s Modelo collections. With cool, dark colors, these rugs have a sleek modern look that  fits in well with a variety of decors. Hand tufted with a soft wool blend, these rugs will prove to be a great conversation starter.

Abboud rounds off his collections with the Monterey rugs. These rug feature a soft hand tufted wool blend in a variety of colors from reds to blues to browns to whites. The understated patterns and simplistic colors create a classic look that is sure to be timeless.

All of these beautiful rugs and so many more are available at Plush Rugs. Take a look at these and hundreds of other rugs and be sure that your buy is a good one with our Triple Guarantee.

Trick or Treat, Smell my Feet.

It’s that time of year again, folks. Halloween! As a kid, Halloween is the best holiday second only to Christmas. But I mean come on, who doesn’t love pretending to be someone else for a day? it’s the one day a year where you can literally be anyone you want to be besides yourself. Kids run around the town on a rampage for free candy. Ringing every doorbell and yelling trick or treat just waiting for an adult to drop hand fulls of candy into a bag before they mutter thanks and take off in a dead sprint to the next house to repeat the process.

As a college kid, I love handing candy out to kids. Granted, I am still a huge kid, but I love carving pumpkins and decorating for the holidays and seeing all of the adorable little babies dressed as duckies and pumpkins and all those other costumes that just don’t look as cute on anyone over the age of 4 or 5.

My favorite part is definitely decorating the house though. Now I use some ghosts and witches here and there but for the most part I focus on pumpkins and the fall colors of orange, red, and yellow. These colors are the epitome of fall. All of the leafs change to these colors due to the lack of chlorophyll in their systems *Ya. I paid attention in Biology*.

Since I don’t paint my walls with every changing season or switch out my crazy heavy couch, I typically decorate by changing curtains and rugs. If you use neutral colors in your constant furniture, it is easier to switch out things like curtains and rugs to change the look of a room in a simple way.

The best part about decorating this way for Halloween is that the colors transfer over seamlessly to November and Thanksgiving. Get a simple, classic orange rug and you’ll be able to reuse it year after year!

Calvin Klein Collections

Calvin Klein is a household name in fashion. It all started with a coat shop in New York called Calvin Klein limited with a meager 10 grand. The store featured women’s and men’s coats and other winter accessories. That was in 1968 and just a year later Klein’s designs got them on the cover of Vogue magazine. Then in 1973 he received the first Coty American Fashion Critic’s Award for a large womenswear collection. Let’s just say his success climbed and climbed and in 1981 Fortune magazine figured Klein’s income at $8.5 million a year.

image

Women hated furniture in the 80’s.

And in the material obsessed 80’s, when buyers were only willing to pay for hip labels, Calvin had the brilliant idea of putting his name on the butt of all the young Americans. That coupled with a massive ad campaign, featuring Marky Mark’s abs, the brand took off.

image

Hooray!

This was such an effective ad, in fact, that these boxers became knwon generally as Calvins, the way we call all adhesive bandages Bandaids, all tissues Kleenex, or sticky notes and Post-its. When you get a name to stick your product will sell.

Years passed and success abound, Klein’s annual income quickly surpassed $12 million a year.

Although success has waned over the years, Calvin Klein is still in business, producing fine products. And not just coats and underwear. Calvin Klein also has a line of-you guessed it- Calvin Klein rugs.

This is the Calvin Klein Canyon LV01. The Canyon collection features rugged texture and natural colors. It would be great in a communal area.

An innovative collection of luxury hand-made rugs featuring a soft, dense and luminescent vicose pile, with deep canyons of suede leather. The Calvin Klein Canyons LV03 creates an interesting textural piece and could be easily worked into many design palates!

The Lunar collection carries the radiance of a full moon. With silken strands and durable material, it is a luxurious option for any space. The Calvin Klein Lunar LUN1 would bring some richness into your home!

Vivid color palates are densely powerloom woven of 100% New Zealand wool. Specific designs call on hand carving to further accentuate their designs. This hand finished product reflects the high standards of craftsmanship. The Calvin Klein Metropolitan MET04 is a chic, vintage option.

Created from all wool fibers in hues of soft beige through charcoal gray, the Naturals collection combine influences of abstract and all-over patterns. Handmade using the cut and loop pile technique creates a matte surface texture that is authentic to Calvin Klein collection. Bring the outdoors in the the Calvin Klein Naturals NT05.

Linear designs are accented with faux silk to create a subtle texture for your floor covering. Hand-tufted pile is complemented with tonal wool yarns for a soft touch, and timeless palate. Get the Calvin Klein Sahara SAH02 today!

My roommates and I are in the ever-constant battle of getting our house together. We live in a rental, so there isn’t a whole lot of permanent options, but it’s always helpful to know whats in. After scrolling through endless pictures on my dash, and Pinterest, and just generally being a huge internet nerd, I have compiled a list of trends in the past year.

image

Wallpaper tends to conjure images of stuffy studies or dated dining rooms but wallpaper seems to be making quite the comeback. Instead of those stuffy beige’s and browns peppered with meek little flowers designers have been favoring intense colors and large graphics. So neat!

image

Faux Bois has been a huge hit for a few years now. We have a natural inclination toward the dirt and trees, despite our shiny buildings and our lighty soundy boxes. It is no wonder it makes sense to bring outdoor elements inside. Here what is probably an eternal interior no-no (wooden walls) becomes modern and sleek with a faux bois paintjob.

image

Outdoor spaces are popular with everyone. It’s not necessarily in everyone’s budget, and Kansas summers are really rough but having a comfortable outdoor space will encourage you to get some fresh air every once in awhile. Simple patio furniture, maybe a stationary water element can make any area peaceful.

image

Let there be light!  More and more, lighting elements are becoming less of a utility and more of a statement. There are so many great DIY lighting ideas, but I personally love suspended, modern light fixtures.

image

The days of using one set of dining room chairs are done! Bring an eclectic twist to  your dining room by collecting different types and styles of chairs. Patterns were meant to be broken!

image

The color purple! David Bromstad of HGTV’s color splash predicts that it will be a good year for purple in all hues from warm to cool and from dull to bold! Pull a Jane Schrader and just go crazy with it if you want.

Pictured is a woman who loves two things: purple and open houses.

Warhol

Love him or hate him, Andy Warhol is an undeniably important figure in American Art History. His work was seen as controversial, as it allowed for mistakes and often referenced pop culture. It was abhorred by some, claiming that he was just copying photographs. It was applauded by many as mysterious, fresh and new.

image

His interest in art began at a young age when he developed chorea, a nervous system disease that causes tension and involuntary movements of muscles in the extremities. It is thought to be a complication of scarlet fever. Because of his ailment, he spent much of his childhood at home, in bed listening the radio and drawing. It was in this time that he developed a close relationship with his mother. Later in his life he recognized the importance of this period in his life.

In the late 50’s he attended the School of Fine Arts at the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh. He experimented in all medias-painting, ink drawing, sculpting and even film and music.

image

As a result he gained some recognition for his whimsical ink drawings and was commissioned to do a few shoe advertisements. He promptly adopted silk screen printmaking as a choice process for his work. In his process, he basically blotted paper to ink while it was still wet, the most rudimentary form of screen printing. It was these works that initially got him into the Hugo and Bodley galleries in New York City. It was also this style-where mistakes were not dealt with but welcome that helped to establish the style that would eventually make him famous.

“When you do something exactly wrong, you always turn up something.” - Warhol

His first solo pop-art exhibition was hosted at the Stable Gallery, it included the Campbell’s Soup Can and Marylin Diptych.

He continued to gain fame and recognition for his artwork and the culture that he created.

And now, Plush Rugs carries the Oriental Weavers Andy Warhol Factory collection.

Warhol was famous for using new technologies and pushing the envelope. The gradation and imperfection seen in Warhol’s prints in the “Factory” days. The abstracted colors and funky designs are echoed here in these designs.

This is the Oriental Weavers Sphinx-Andy Warhol Factory HM-14114.  In red and twilight green. It is the ideal decorative piece for any modern living room or dining area.

Catch the Wave!

Momeni always offers high quality products. Many of the collections they offer are hand-tufted and textured. Hand-tufted rugs allow for more attention to detail and eye catching texture. Many of these carved rugs have a surface that accentuates and compliments the design.

New Wave is one of our most popular collections. This is totally understandable, as it pulls inspiration from different time periods and styles. The result is a beautiful eclectic style that anyone can appreciate.

Because this collection is so heavily rooted in past design concepts, here’s a little art history for you! Art Deco was a design and artistic movement taking place in the 1930’s. The linear elements and symmetrical focus was a clear departure from the swirling, organic elements of the art nouveau movement.

Here’s an example of a 1930’s advert for milk! You can see it is a very inorganic approach to depicting form, very flat, very linear, very much based in geometry.

Much like the Momeni New Wave NW-121. This pretty piece is based on Mondrian’s painting. This piece is super famous, being a staple for general artsy-filler in a lot of cultural pockets. When you train a sim in the Sim’s game to paint, this is usually their masterpiece. If you didn’t know, Mondrian was very interested in painting trees. He began to deconstruct the object over and over again, substituting natural colors with fabricated ones. This is actually a very abstracted tree. (See, I’m not just dribbling about stuff, you might actually learn something by coming here!)

Abstract Expressionism was a design movement after World War II. Again, it is always a departure from the previous movement, instead of literal figurative work. The central theme of this work is that it is very emotionally charged but not based in figurative images.

This is Cyclops by William Baziotes.

image

And this is the Momeni New Wave NW-118 from the New Wave collection. Looks like drippy paint, no? And I love the hand-carved texture. It just pushes every detail forward and makes this rug such a beautiful accent in any home.

image

The Momeni New Wave NW-106 is another alluring option from the New Wave collection. The abstract symbols piled on top of one another create an interesting contrast in hues.

Wild Side

We have lived beside animals for much of our existence. It is uncertain what the “date” of the first domestication was but it is suspected that we began to domesticate beasts as early as 9000 BC.

While it is still a controversial issue, it is undeniable that our quadrupedal counterparts pose as an invaluable resource. Whether the socially tempered for companionship, the hardy and hard-working for labor, or the plump for eating, there are literally countless ways that we utilize life unbound on this planet. I grew up in a house where there was always at least three dogs running around. My folks encouraged us to catch toads on summer nights and bring a few home. I always found fat grass hoppers and put them in empty pickle jars with a leaf and a stick, in vain trying to recreate their habitat. Suffice it to say, I do sincerely have an affection and compassion for all living things, but damnit if they aren’t way too useful to be passed up.

Also, the internet and cats

It’s seriously all that it’s made of.

Also, I really dig

image

That isn’t a real animal hide rug, but the robust feel is still there for sure. The rug paired with the vintage leather couch makes the room feel boisterous but not too rich. The rest of the elements are totally stripped down- a natural wood TV stand, stacked chests instead of a cumbersome dresser and a neutral grey paint job. This look is timeless but quickly updated with a splash of color.
